The chakras hold our life story – the good, the bad and the ugly. Every single thought and experience we ever had gets filtered through the chakras. Think about that for a moment. What a massive amount of information! Now compare that to everything you keep on your computer hard drive, and how necessary it is to clean and organize that information to keep things running smoothly. We have probably all had the experience of what happens when we let our hard drive get clogged, right?
Vibrant health begins with the chakras. When they become clogged and sluggish, not only is our vital energy impacted, but also our health, emotions and connection with Spirit (God, the Divine).
Clearing and balancing chakras helps to release old stories that tie us to our past. Instead of repeating experiences over and over, we can move forward in times of change and transition, and live to our highest potential. Healthy chakras connect the rest of our energy systems with the world around us, giving us a balanced experience of life.
The seven main chakras are centers of electromagnetic activity and vital energy that regulate aspects of our personality, as well as organs and hormones. Each chakra has a physical location from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Comprising seven layers, their complexity makes them one of my favorite energy systems to work with. Placing my hand over a chakra allows me to see and experience that person in their true essence, it is like looking through a window to their soul.
The First or Root Chakra, at the base of the spine, is all about survival and our primal instincts connected to that. It is our foundation and stability and gives valuable information about how we stand in the world.
The Second or Womb Chakra, between the pubic bone and the navel, is the seat of emotions, our dreams and creative impulse. It is where we experience joy and passion.
The Third or Solar Plexus Chakra, between the navel and the rib cage, holds the energies that support and maintain our individual identity; who we know we truly are versus how we have been taught to be.
The Fourth or Heart Chakra, in the center of the chest, is the seat of love and compassion. It is where we find balance between loving ourselves and loving others, and as the chakra that sits in the middle of the seven, it is where we make connection.
The Fifth or Throat Chakra, between the collar bones and the mouth, is about communication. It holds information from all the chakras and gives us our unique expression in the world. It is the place from where we speak our truth.
The Sixth or Pituitary/Third Eye Chakra, centered at the point between (or just above) the eyebrows, is the center of thought and abstraction and is from where we draw insight, guidance and wisdom.
The Seventh or Pineal/Crown Chakra, on the top of the head, is the seat of awareness and consciousness itself. It is where we can come into deep peace and comprehension about life and can experience oneness with the Divine.
With the energy of each chakra flowing without hindrance, and all the chakras effectively connecting and communicating with each other, we can weather the storms and move through life with ease and grace.
